The EU Lisbon Agenda - Request for full speed ahead after Barcelona and a reality check with the US
In Lisbon in march 2000 – Europe’s political leaders set themselves the target of making Europe the most dynamic, competitive and knowledge-based economy in the world by 2010. Confederation of Swedish Enterprise which represents 48 000 companies with 1.5 million employees fully supports this goal.
The Lisbon goal and the EU performance also have to be seen in relation to the rest of the world and especially to the US. How do the EU in general and Sweden in particular match up to the US? Conclusions drawn from the report referred to in this paper show that the US, despite the recession, is still far ahead of the EU.
