SUMMARY:The Banking Union and the EU Single Market – opportunity or threat?
DESCRIPTION:\nThe Banking Union is seen as a part in solving the eurozone’s debt crisis by \n reducing the link between banks and individual member states as well as a \n mean to reverse the trend of fragmentation of the financial markets in \n Europe. A first step, the single supervisory mechanism, is on its way and \n the architecture of a common resolution system and deposit guarantee scheme \n is now taking shape. \n\n\n\nWill this deliver the intended results? What will this mean for companies and \n banks on the in- or outside? For EUs role in international finance? Does the \n fact that several member states are opting out mean that a two-speed \n financial market is unavoidable? What role can or should non-euro states \n play in these arrangements? \n\n\n\nThe seminar will be held at the European Parliament on February 27 from \n 13.00-14.30, in the meeting room 6Q1. Before the seminar a lighter lunch \n will be served at 12.30 just outside the room. The number of possible \n participants is limited and we will give prioritiy to those who register \n early. \n\n\n\nSpeakers at the seminar include:\n\n\n\nMEP Sven Giegold (Green), rapporteur EBA supervision\n\n\nMEP Gunnar Hökmark (EPP), rapporteur Bank Resolution Framework\n\n\nMEP Olle Schmidt (ALDE), member ECON committee, \n\n\nRym Ayadi, Senior Research Fellow, CEPS\n\n\nMichael Collins, Managing Director European Government Affairs, Citibank\n\n\n\nWelcome,\n\n\nGöran Färm, Chairman of SPN, Brussels\n\n\nJonas Berggren, Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, Brussels Office\n\n\n
