Sharp critique of Swedish Employment Protection Act
Labour Market and LAS| As part of the government long-term review of labour laws, French Professor Pierre Cahuc reports that the Swedish Employment Protection Act (LAS) does not lead to greater job security for employees.

Red tape| The total administrative burden of red tape for Swedish businesses exceeds SEK 100 billion. Something must be done, and fast, to reduce this burden if Sweden is to maintain its international competitiveness.

Red tape| The government should focus on eliminating rules that inhibit growth when working to cut red tape. Rather than simply reducing administrative burdens of bureaucracy, the government should meet actual business needs. This is the message being sent from the business members of the Board of Swedish Industry and Commerce for Better Regulation (NNR -- Näringslivets Regelnämnd) in the report ‘Red Tape Agenda 2010 for the Swedish Riksdag’.
