BusinessEurope urges swift delivery on competitiveness agenda
As geopolitical tensions rise and economic pressures intensify, BusinessEurope is calling on EU policymakers to move from ambition to delivery. In a position paper, the organisation outlines urgent actions needed in 2026 to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness and resilience.

BusinessEurope warns that despite a renewed political focus on competitiveness, European companies have yet to see tangible improvements on the ground. High energy prices, regulatory complexity and remaining barriers in the Single Market continue to weigh on investment, innovation and growth.
In a call for action ahead of 2026, the organisation highlights five priority areas: deepening the Single Market and cutting regulatory burdens, lowering energy costs to support decarbonisation, mitigating geopolitical risks and securing market access, boosting investment and innovation, and strengthening Europe’s economic security.
BusinessEurope points to the Letta and Draghi reports as setting the right direction, but stresses that rapid and coordinated implementation at EU and national level is now essential. According to the organisation, Europe’s economic strength is a prerequisite for long-term prosperity, security and global influence.
