Competition policy measures in support of the Green Deal.

Well-functioning competition is a prerequisite for companies to dare to invest in climate-smart solutions. EU competition rules should therefore be applied and interpreted in the same way in all Member States, says Stefan Sagebro, an expert on competition and state aid.

Stefan Sagebro, konkurrensexpert på Svenskt Näringsliv.

Business is the driving force behind the creation of a more sustainable society. Only through innovative and efficient companies that drive development forward can we get the technical solutions needed to meet the possibilities and challenges presented to us by the green deal. Well-functioning competition ensures that companies are rewarded for their efforts and not, for example, for their size.

One risk in this context is that the possibility of providing aid will be too extensive and that it will be exploited by other countries to such an extent as to distort competition. This would be to a great disadvantage for Swedish companies, which are often at the forefront when it comes to climate-smart solutions.
